Crescent Street is the hairpin of the weekend: everything converges there during the Montréal Grand Prix. Festivities, concerts, exotic cars — and traffic that would make any F1 driver cry. Here are the advanced moves to reach your Pema garage without losing your mind.
Road closures to anticipate
- Crescent Street closed between René-Lévesque and Sainte-Catherine from Thursday 6 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m.
- Sainte-Catherine Street pedestrian-only between Peel and Guy for the whole weekend.
- De la Montagne, Mackay and Bishop: local traffic only.
- René-Lévesque Boulevard: lane reserved for shuttles and taxis Friday from 4 p.m.
Recommended approaches by direction
Coming from the west (Highway 20 or 720), exit at University and head down to Saint-Antoine to reach Place Victoria or 1000 de la Gauchetière without touching the Crescent area.
Coming from the east (Hochelaga, Jacques-Cartier Bridge), skip Sainte-Catherine and take René-Lévesque westbound, then climb via Mansfield or Peel.
Coming from the north (Plateau, Mile End), come down Saint-Urbain or Bleury — these stay open throughout the Grand Prix.
The three golden rules of the downtown driver
- Book ahead — a guaranteed Pema spot dodges the open-spot lottery.
- Arrive early — between 8 and 10 a.m. on Saturday, traffic still flows.
- Follow the City's orange signs over your GPS, which is not aware of temporary closures.
